While we try to keep our kids from handling non-board books, it's difficult to read to 16mo twins and not have them want to turn the page or handle the book. My second daughter, Elea, who was my first toddler nursling, woke up every two hours from birth until about 22 months old. When the toddler wakes at night for “nursies,” mom shows her baby that it’s dark outside, and assures baby that she’ll have nursies when the sun shines. We don't have much sun in the Pacific Northwest in the winter--I use a color-changing light to mark morning instead--but the book still helped prepare Lily for the concept, which was invaluable.a tout de suite voulu le lire plusieurs fois, et je crois qu’elle commence à intégrer les notions développées.

We read to our 16 month old and at his age, you could really see in his face, his understanding of what was going to happen, of sleeping until the sun comes up. It’s in the same vein as Nursies in that it helps parents communicate a difficult concept to their toddlers/pre-schoolers. Little Critter is dealing with his little sister learning to use the potty in this classic, funny, and heartwarming book. If you are in the very specific niche of being a cosleeping, breastfeeding family wanting to night wean your toddler, this book is for you. It is used like a proper noun, with no explanation, and only a single picture at the end displays what it is.It’s helped him deal emotionally with this big change and given us tools on how to best communicate with him. I've been adding "papa is asleep" when I read the book to my son, but I really wish the author would have written dad into the text.
