About this deal

I don't agree with your premise. Admittedly, it seems difficult to get a solid report of all the lens compatibilities across all the bodies and body and adapter firmware versions, but my impression is that, for LA-EA3 (Metabones Green Mode) functionality, the MC-11 does very well. With applicable SGV lenses*, it has improved AF performance in the peripheral areas of the image as well as the “Eye AF” function when it is selected, Excluding the LA-EA3 that Sony designed for its DSLT lenses, all the other adapters are made by third-party manufacturers that mainly produce accessories. One of the most popular (and most expensive) is the Metabones Smart Adapter mark IV but you can also find products from Fotodiox and Viltrox. A6300, 1/100, f/11, ISO 100 – 150-600mm Contemporary The LED display on the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 makes it easy to know whether an attached lens is compatible or not and whether the mount converter control data needs to be updated for operation with that lens.

Tom, I suspect your post is a comment more than a question but it's worth remembering that the MC-11 is an adapter for Sigma NOT Canon lenses. That Canon lenses work on the MC-11 is serendipitous. When it comes to whether or not the MC-11 converter will work with lenses other than those made by Sigma… again, officially the answer is no. In practice however, the verdict upgrades to a strong “ maybe”. While it’s true that the MC-11 was engineered to give full functionality to Sigma-made lenses in terms of AF and firmware there is also wiggle room for usage with Canon EF lenses as long as you don’t mind some loss in AF variety and function. Reports range from good to terrible performance when using Canon lenses with the MC-11.

Before Updating

In the past I have heard praise for the MC-11 on how compatible it has been in allowing EF mount lenses to work well on Sony E/FE camera bodies - this has been fulsome praise and not restricted to praising only Sigma EF mount lenses. I already shared my experience for birds in flight ( read the Red Kites article here) where I got an overall 50% keeper rate with the A7r II and 60% with the a6300, which I consider quite good. A6300, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 800 – 150-600mm Contemporary Sigma should be capable of doing better - after all it has been reverse engineering all the Canon EF lens protocols since Adam was a boy. I mainly use older L lenses (early zooms from c. 2005) and they work poorly-to-OK but the 1.2/50L is superb on the MC-11 with fast and accurate focus on A7r4.

For example it does not work with the cheap Canon EF 50/1.8 MkII - which is acceptable as no electronic adapter seem to have mastered that little nuisance. This is not the case. While the technology has been floating around for some time, converters/adapters have now began maturing to the point where virtually any lens system, even those with advanced autofocus and profiles, can be used to full effect with power-punching mirrorless camera set ups. But not all adapters are created equal. Enter the Sigma MC-11 converter ↓It has optimized the peripheral illumination correction data when it is used in combination with the SIGMA 18-300mm F3.5-6.3 DC MACRO OS HSM | Contemporary for Canon EF mount. I'm not comparing to "most other adapters". I'm comparing to the Metabones adapter. Can you point to anyone who has done a comparison of the two and concluded that the Sigma adapter has wider and better compatibility than the Metabones adapter? So the quiet L-Mount forum has steadily become quieter and there seems almost zilch interest in adapting EF mount lenses there. The MC-21 has done its job thoroughly and most of the talk is now about what new L-mount lenses are being released. Alle diese Objektive wurden grundsätzlich auch vom Commlite erkannt jedoch war beim 40mm schon bei f3.5 Schluss und somit f2.8 nicht möglich. Das Tamron ging und mal nicht, Blendensteuerung war der Horror.
